Crunchyroll costs money. Funimation got absorbed into it and costs more money. This guide is for watching anime completely free — current season simulcasts, dubs, and catalogue titles without a subscription.
Best overall: Zoro.to (HiAnime)
If you pick one site, make it Zoro.to (now operating as HiAnime). It has:
- Simulcast releases on the same day as Japan
- Both sub and dub versions for most major titles
- A massive back catalogue going back decades
- Minimal ads compared to other free sites
- No account required
Best backup: GogoAnime
GogoAnime has been around longer and has broader coverage of older titles. More ads than Zoro, but a reliable fallback when something isn't available elsewhere.
Sub vs Dub: which sites have what?
Both Zoro.to and GogoAnime carry dub versions for major titles. Dub availability lags behind sub by weeks to months for new shows — if a dub doesn't exist yet on one site, it probably doesn't exist anywhere free yet.
Simulcast availability
Zoro.to is the best free site for simulcasts. New episodes appear within hours of Japanese broadcast. GogoAnime is usually same-day or next-day.
Do I need an account?
No. Both sites let you watch without registering. Accounts add watchlist and progress tracking features, but they're optional.
